Tissue transplants - page 560

There is a hospital in Halifax that is transplanting brain tissue from aborted fetuses into Parkinson's patients, it is believed that transplants from healthy insulin producing cells cultured in the lab may hold the key to curing diabetes, Scientists are fusing healthy white blood cells with cancerous cells to produce mass quantities of antibodies. These are just few examples of where Cell research is moving into an area where long range consequences have not been considered. It stands then, that a private body, representing community values, should be established to oversee the technological applications of cell biology..

I have an issue with this topic. I don't believe in abortion, but some people do. If it has to be done then this is a good way to use the fetuses. They would just go in the trash, or for cell research. The fact that they don't know what the long term consequences are unknown makes me question weather a private body representing community values, should be established to oversee the technological applications of cell biology.

If a governing body was created, who would be part of it? Government? Private Corporations? A mix of both? What kind of rules would they need to abide by? would they be elected or appointed?

I feel that the governing body should have some very powerful, yet trustworthy members. They should have a few government members and also some high end doctors that know what they are doing. They should be appointed, because an election would just cost money and many people wouldn't even care to vote. I think that they should have a set of rules chosen by themselves, and some by the citizens to keep it under control. This is a very delicate topic, and the governing body would have many protesters. There is already abortion protesters, and the number would grow if they knew they were being used for this. Also, the governing body would need a media personnel to cover all press conferences and media relations.
